Wayne Lemon's debut stageplay, Jesus Hates Me, received its world premiere as the centerpiece of the Denver Center Theatre Company's inaugural Colorado New Play Summit - Winter, 2006. Lemon served as playwright in residence at DCTC throughout the play's production.
Variety said of the play "...as irreverent and at times as profane as rap, yet filled with pertinent issues and rebellious politics. Playwright Lemon needs only his pen to disarm the audience with pointed one-liners and thoughtful existential observations."
The award winning Kitchen Dog Theater of Dallas produced the Texas premiere during a five week run, November - December of 2006. The Dallas Morning News said of the production, directed by Chris Carlos, "...exceptionally well acted, impressively physical and ultimately about something more than finding the laugh lines."

Emigrant Theater, recently named Best Independent Theater Company in Minneapolis by Citypages, mounted their production of the play at the newly restored Ritz Theater - Fall, 2007.
Jesus Hates Me was a featured reading at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Horizon Theatre of Atlanta's 2006 New South PlayWorks, Hartford Stage's 2005 Brand:NEW Fall Festival of New Works and the 2005 Southern Writers' Project at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival.
Lemon began his career as a music and theatre critic for the Austin Chronicle while attending the University of Texas where he earned a Masters Degree in Film Production with a minor concentration in Shakespeare.

After having a handgun thrown at him while working with gang members in East Austin he relocated to Los Angeles, erroneously believing it to be safer.
Lemon has developed screenplays for various studios as well as pilots for all the major networks. He has written for such critically acclaimed shows as Grace Under Fire, the Emmy winning The Famous Teddy Z and The Torkelsons as well as Steven Spielberg's cult sci-fi favorite Invasion America. Recent projects include Sinners for the FOX network in association with 20th Century Fox Studios and Reveille and an original screenplay, Buddy Sharp.
He is currently completing his second play, 8 feet of water.
He remains convinced Jesus only mildly dislikes him.
